What is NeurOptimal® Dynamic Neurofeedback?

But before explaining what dynamic neurofeedback is, it is essential to understand that the brain has a natural tendency to seek a state of balance through two fundamental mechanisms: self-regulation and neuroplasticity.
-
Self-regulation: This is the brain’s ability to adjust its activity in real-time to maintain internal balance in response to environmental stimuli. It allows functions such as emotions, stress, and attention to be regulated according to immediate needs. When the brain receives information (visual, tactile, auditory), it reacts and adapts.
-
Neuroplasticity: It is the brain’s ability to reorganize its neural connections or create new ones based on experiences, learning, or needs. Unlike self-regulation, which occurs immediately, neuroplasticity is a slower and more lasting process of long-term reorganization.
NeurOptimal® Dynamic Neurofeedback is a non-invasive brain training method that optimizes brain function, offering a wide range of diverse and fascinating benefits—at any age!
This is how NeurOptimal® works:
NeurOptimal® dynamic neurofeedback is based on these two fundamental principles inherent to the brain’s functioning that we just explained: self-regulation and neuroplasticity.
The system measures brain electrical activity in real-time using sensors placed on the scalp.
When an abnormal variation in electrical activity is detected, the system provides auditory feedback in the form of a brief interruption in the music you are listening to during the session.
This feedback, like any environmental stimulus, is perceived by the brain as a signal/message. Since the brain spontaneously seeks to improve efficiency in processing information and is highly adaptable, this signal invites it to adjust.
This process is completely natural and automatic. It happens unconsciously, without any mental effort on your part—much like when the body adjusts its balance to prevent falling, without having to consciously think about it.

Is my brain functioning improperly?
No, your brain is not ‘failing.’
However, the daily pace of life, with its constant pressures (multitasking, information overload, omnipresence of screens, etc.), often causes the brain to adopt less effective patterns. This can manifest as difficulties in concentration, relaxation, or emotion regulation, for example. Sometimes, these patterns are established unconsciously, simply through repetition. It can also happen that they become fixed due to prolonged stress, anxiety, or trauma, which can be harmful in the long term.

How NeurOptimal® Can Help?
NeurOptimal® allows the brain to ‘see’ its own functioning in real-time, 256 times per second, which supports the natural process of optimizing information flow. This provides the brain with an opportunity it would not have otherwise had to identify and correct non-optimal patterns, whether they are related to specific disorders, strokes, or simply the challenges of everyday life.

Specifics of NeurOptimal® Dynamic Neurofeedback:
-
Not a medical treatment: NeurOptimal® is not a medical treatment and should not be considered as such. It is a brain training method, distinct from conventional medical treatments.
-
Absence of Diagnosis: NeurOptimal® does not perform any diagnosis and does not require a prior diagnosis from your doctor. It does not compare your brain to any ‘reference brain’; instead, it is evaluated solely in relation to itself.
-
No Protocol: Unlike traditional linear neurofeedback methods that rely on rigid protocols tied to specific diagnoses, NeurOptimal® does not follow any predetermined protocol. It analyzes the brain’s cortical activity in real-time and provides feedback that allows the nervous system to determine its own needs at any given moment.
-
Gentle and Safe Method: NeurOptimal® is a gentle, painless, non-invasive, and 100% safe method, with no side effects or contraindications. No electrical stimuli or waves are sent to the brain. The system does not intervene, manipulate, or impose; it works through simple feedback, and the sound interruption is the only information transmitted to the brain.
-
Passive Method: This approach is completely passive. The person undergoing a session does not have to do anything, control anything, or make decisions. There is no need to reflect on the reason for the session or adopt a particular state; you simply need to relax and enjoy!
-
Suitable for Everyone: NeurOptimal® is suitable for everyone, regardless of age or physical and mental condition. Whether it’s a baby, a young child, a teenager, an adult, or an elderly person, everyone can benefit from the training, regardless of the problem they wish to alleviate or the abilities they wish to improve.

Why did I decide to incorporate neurofeedback into my tools?
After exploring various therapies and training methods, the results I have observed with NeurOptimal® neurofeedback have pleasantly surprised me. In addition to having no contraindications or side effects, it is, in my experience, an effective and quick technique compared to other approaches. While it is not a magic solution, the changes that can be observed within a couple of months can be truly remarkable.
I believe that dynamic neurofeedback NeurOptimal® is a very interesting method because, by targeting the central nervous system, the conductor of our body, it can have positive repercussions in various areas, such as endocrine, immune, or digestive functions, for example, depending on the individual.
Although it is suitable and beneficial for anyone, I am especially excited to observe the positive evolution in children practicing neurofeedback, particularly those with disorders, difficulties staying still, or low self-esteem.
As the benefits of Neurofeedback become more known, an increasing number of clinics and hospitals are incorporating it into the services they offer. Some examples include:
• La Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris uses it as a complement to other methods for sleep disorders and autism spectrum disorders.
• Sainte-Marguerite Hospital in Marseille offers it as a re-education method for attention deficit disorders and epilepsy.
• Institut Raphaël in Levallois-Perret provides it as support for patients suffering from chronic diseases and cancer.
• Institut du Cerveau Trocadéro in Paris provides it to patients with memory disorders, epilepsy, ADHD, psychological trauma, and more.
• Centre du Burnout in Paris also uses it with their patients.
• Neuf de Coeur Association, which helps families with children who have brain injuries, recommends Neurofeedback.
• Institut Devenir, near Toulouse, offers it to children and adults with neurological disorders, disabilities, or developmental delays.
• Le Silence des Justes Association uses it to support children with autism spectrum disorders.
Some schools are also starting to equip themselves to enhance the well-being and academic success of their students, such as the NoSchool business school in Bordeaux.
A Globally Proven Tool
Developed in the 2000s by Canadian clinical psychologists Dr. Valdeane Brown and Dr. Sue Brown, over 4 million sessions have been conducted to date in more than 70 countries. Thousands of people worldwide benefit from this innovative method, which has proven its effectiveness in various fields.
